LARGE- SIZE U.S. CURRENCY ISSUED BY THE
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FROM 1861 - 1923
This federally issued currency measures 7 ½” x 3 ¼” and was
printed from 1861 through 1923. Demand Notes were our first issued
note and they were printed in 1861. The federal government also issued
United States Notes from 1862 through 1923, Silver Certificates from
1880 through 1923, Treasury notes from 1890 to 1891, Series 1915 and
1918 Federal Reserve Bank Notes, Series 1914 Federal Reserve Notes and
Gold Certificates from 1882 through 1922.

DEMAND NOTES - These notes
were issued in 1861 only. They were hand signed by the Register of the
Treasury and the Treasurer of the United States. The bottom, center of
the bill states “Payable by the Assistant Treasurer of the United
States at (either NY, Philadelphia, Boston, Cincinnati or St. Louis).

because they could have been redeemed for silver coins. This short
lived series printed notes in 1890 and 1891 only in the following

1914 and the $500 and $1000 notes were from series 1918. All the other
denominations of $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 were printed from series
1914. The earlier issues had red seals and serial numbers and the

GOLD CERTIFICATES - Large Size Gold Certificates were
printed from 1882 through 1922 in the following denominations: $10,
$20, $50, $100, $500 and $1,000, $5,000 and $10,000. There is also a
series 1900 $10,000 gold certificate that has been redeemed by the
Treasury Department and punch cancelled. A market currently exists for
these cancelled $10,000 gold certificates and we are purchasing them
at current market prices. |
