During the printing process, it is
inevitable that some bills are misprinted or otherwise not up to the
standards of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP). When notes
are inspected, any imperfect note is replaced with pre-printed bills
that have a star before or after the serial number. The percentage of
misprinted bills is very small, thus the number of star notes is very
small relative to the total amount of bills printed for each series.
If you have old large size bills (7 ½
x 3 ¼) or regular size currency issued by the federal government or
any federal reserve bank, with a star in front of, or behind, the
serial number and the bill is from any series from 1880 through 1950,
please contact us and advise what you have. Because of their relative
rarity, star notes are worth more to collectors than regular issue
notes. We can be reached at our toll free number at 1-877-396-5322.
You can also send us scans of your star note and we will be happy to
advise you how much we can pay you for them after we have had the
opportunity to review the scans and see the condition of the star
notes.
Most contemporary star notes, which
are printed from 1950 through 2004 only have collector value if they
are brand new and uncirculated. Please contact us only if these star
notes are new. These newer star notes have some value over and above
their face value, however this value is very small and we are able to
pay only a slight premium over their face value. Again, please
contact us at our toll free number if you have any of the newer issue
star notes in uncirlculated condition and we will advise you if we can
purchase them and how much we can pay you for them. |
